Troi Automatisering releases Troi Grabber Plug-in 2.0 for FileMaker Pro 10

New plug-in for FileMaker Pro 10 adds powerful image and movie
capture functions.

June 29th, 2009, Alphen aan den Rijn, The Netherlands--Troi
Automatisering today released Troi Grabber Plug-in 2.0 for FileMaker
Pro 10.

What is Troi Grabber Plug-in?

Troi Grabber Plug-in 2.0 is a very powerful tool for grabbing images
from a video camera and putting them directly into a FileMaker
container field. All from within FileMaker Pro 10 you can:
- preview the image stream from the video input source
- crop pictures to grab only the desired part of the video image
- rotate pictures before grabbing
- grab pictures from a video input source and put them into your
FileMaker database
- record a movie from a video input source for a specified number of
seconds or until the mouse is clicked and save the movie to a
specified file on the hard disk
- get timecodes of a recorded movie; you can get the timecode of the
beginning of the movie, of the end of the movie, the timecode at the
current point in the movie or the duration of the movie in timecode

Peter Baanen, company president, states: "Today we are happy to
release the final version of Troi Grabber Plug-in for FileMaker Pro
10. It provides a great user experience with the powerful QTKit
technology!"

New Features

Troi Grabber Plug-in 2.0 makes final these new functions and features:
- The plug-in is now compatible with FileMaker Pro 9 and 10 (older
versions of FileMaker are not supported).
- Converted to the function API of FileMaker Pro 7. It is now also a
Universal plug-in which runs natively on PowerPC and Intel Macs.
- Added support for the QTKit framework. This technology allows you
to grab images and movies in a separate window.
- Converted the 'classic' grabbing functions to work with FileMaker 9
and 10: with this technology the preview is still shown inside the
FileMaker window itself.
- The new version makes use of the extended possibilities of the
FileMaker Pro 7 API. For example the grabbed images, instead of using
the clipboard, are now returned as a binary type, allowing for easy
setting into a container field.
- Added new Grabber_VersionAutoUpdate function. The
Grabber_VersionAutoUpdate function is part of an emerging standard
for FileMaker plug-ins of third party vendors of plug-ins.
- Clear and updated example databases to get you started quickly.

All these features also work in a runtime solution.

Suggested Uses

- a webcam database
- time lapse pictures
- festival-, meeting- or conference registration database with pictures
- making ID badges for schools and universities
- medical database with pictures of the patients' condition
- easy recording of auditions or casting
- security database
- capture a movie and log the scenes and timecodes

The possibilities are virtually limitless when using the Troi Grabber
Plug-in. We invite you to test drive the new functions and see what
you can do with it!

Runtime file accessing network file

I am starting to develop a multi-user Filemaker solution. The main file
will be hosted on an internet-based Filemaker server. Is it possible for
a Filemaker runtime file to access the database on the server - by
defining file references, etc., before converting it to a runtime file.

I know that a runtime file cannot be shared over a network, but I'm
essentially trying to do it the other way around.

Thanks for the assistance.

If by "the other way around" you mean the runtime accessing data
hosted by FileMaker Server then the answer is no. The runtime client
has no networking code - you need the full version of FileMaker Pro to
share any data.

Some javascript/style in this post has been disabled (why?)
Thanks, Corn, for the info. This is what I suspected.

Filemaker 9 vs 10, server 10, script errors

Help, anyone....??

I have a multi-file, multi-user filemaker database system running with
Filemaker Server 10.

Some users have Filemaker 10, while others have Filemaker 9.

In various scripts that I originally wrote in Filemaker 9, strange
errors are happening
when people with only Filemaker 9 try to use them.  When I run the
script with the same
permissions set on my computer (with Filemaker 10), the script works
fine.

That would suggest all I need to do is update everyone to Filemaker
10--BUT--there
are other scripts that don't work right for some users with Filemaker
10, but still
work fine in Filemaker 9 for them, and work fine for me with Filemaker
10 advanced
(this is all via the same server, same files).

The scripts where I have seen this are so far happening when the user
is in one file
under a specific user permissions set and is opening the other file
via a guest
permissions set.

Does anyone know what might have changed between version 9 and 10 of
the server,
or the application itself, that could possibly account for these sorts
of problems?
I am really at a loss for what is going on and getting quite
frustrated in trying
to get all the scripts working right for everyone again.

Thanks for any hints or suggestions--I have used Filemaker a lot, but
I still regard
my skill with Filemaker as that of an experienced beginner--I am not
an expert
(perhaps obviously :) ).

Thanks for any help.

Sue
