I have been following the list for a bit and seem to remember a brief thread about getting CAS to use Terracotta for clustering... I saw the note about CAS 3.3 coming with a Terracotta configuration but don't see any mention of Terracotta on the clustering wiki article (http://www.ja-sig.org/wiki/display/CASUM/Clustering+CAS)... Does anyone have a crib sheet for setting CAS up with Terracotta and if you do, would you be willing to share? Mark,
We don't deploy it here so I don't know how much help I can be. However, the Terracotta configuration file should be included with the CAS distribution: https://www.ja-sig.org/svn/cas3/trunk/etc/terracotta/ Cheers, Scott On Fri, Jul 3, 2009 at 10:54 AM, Mark John Rank <[hidden email]> wrote:

Thanks, maybe a little background is in order. We are trying to re-invigorate our current CAS deployment with an eye toward a Shib deployment also in the future. Since our CAS deployment is rather embryonic, a review of the implementation is probably in the future, especially how we are doing our fault tolerance. Shib has a pretty good write up on Terracotta and I was curious if CAS follows a similar deployment path. I personally wasn't impressed with Terracotta when we reviewed it as one of our local options. I therefore don't have any information to put in the wiki. I'm only aware of a few places that have used it for CAS. You're more likely to find people who have used memcached or the JPA storage.

Thanks. I will look at those other options. Off hand, do you remember anything specific that you found as a disadvantage with Terracotta over the other options? We can take this off list if you would like. Its been a while since I looked, but for us the architecture of how they did multi-location reliability, and it didn't seem like it would work well for us. We wanted to be decentralized and this required the coordinator, and then if you wanted reliability with the coordinator then you would either need to have network traffic sharing state, or a shared storage device.

Things could have, of course, changed since we last looked at it. And our issues may not be the same as your issues :-)

Understood but the issue you raise is certainly something for us to re-validate as we look at it.
