FM Server Problem FMSA9 on Win2k

I have an "fmxdbc" type connection showing on my server (from an ODBC
connection) that I cannot disconnect.  The person who's system is
connecting to it says she is no longer connected.  I believe this is
locking up FMP, as I am getting the following error when trying to open
a hosted database (then promptly get kicked out of FMP):

"The maximum number of licensed users are currently using this copy of
FileMaker Pro.  Please refer to the License Key section of your software
documentation for further Instructions.

License Key conflict occurred with user "".

All files will be closed and the application will quit."

Anyone know what the heck is going on??

Thanks,
Trish

Hi Trish

This is an old problem, since the FM3 days.

When the client computer is kicked out of the server it still remains
"registered" into FM Server records for a while. This means that for a
couple minutes you will show as connected when you really are not.
That's why when you try to reconnect immediately you get the license
conflict message.

To solve this you have two choices:

1.- Log into FM server and manually disconnect the user, then reopen
the file with FM Pro.
2.- Wait a couple minutes to let the server automatically release your
connection and try again.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Ibrahim!  Problem is, that connection apparently hosed up the
server.  I couldn't manually disconnect the user OR close the database
it showing it had open.  I had to restart the server, as even a
FileMaker service restart didn't work.

Ugh.

This is where the Command Line Interface comes in useful - it will
quite often do the right thing even if the GUI is playing up...

Also, Patricia, if you were using the admin console, I notice that it gets
"stuck" with data about clients that is old, and thus not current.  So there
is a good chance that the connection you were worrying about was not the
problem.

Thanks Richard ... it was stuck somehow, just not sure how.  The woman
who uses that particular login, has been connecting fine for months,
using ODBC from MySQL.  Once she started trying to connect to a
different d'base, FM started freaking out. ODBC sharing is turned on.
Last week, it showed her user name connected 4 times at once, but
allowed me to force her off.  This time, it was hosed up completely.
I'm afraid to let her try again!  Geez, I wish we had a test FM server!!
