FMPServer 10 Admin Console BUG...

Hi gang,

Windows Server 2003

I have read around on the FM Forum of a bug with the Admin console.
It happen to me. It appears to happen when a scheduled backup runs.
After this, the admin stalls at that point in time and never updates
info beyond that. Shared files are still being hosted properly, but I
cannot admin them or see the current status of traffic and users.
Also, I believe the scheduled backup does not function any more.

I know I am not the only luck person dealing with this issue. Has
anyone stumbled upon a remedy to deal with this until FileMaker deals
with it on their end?

Appreciate it...

I've had the same problems since upgrading to FM Server 10 Adv, also on Windows Server 2003.  It seemed to be associated with the scheduled backup, so turned that off and have been doing backups manually. The problems got better but didn't go away. The issues I've seen are:

-  external authentication fails, and testing Directory Service settings in the admin console fails
-  Admin console sometimes doesn't show the databases even though FMP client users can get to them okay
-  if databases do show, I can't open or close them through Admin console
-  the web publishing engine starts sending errors and warnings
-  the response time from the web server becomes really slow

After the server itself is restarted, everything works fine for 12-24 hrs, and then these problems pop up, even if no one is trying to access any databases.  We are running FM Server Adv 10.0.1.64 and have installed the 10.0v1a External Authentication Update.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi Don

I have one client on Vista Business where I installed server 10 with
backup schedules. All ran fine for a while (not sure how long). Then I
tried to access Admin console and it would not load.

Spoke to FM in Oz and followed usual steps - uninstall, retart,
reinstall ect etc.

Files are still hosted as yours are, but admin console will not start.

Sent all logs and machine specs to FM Oz who sent them to FM US and
still waiting to hear back.

So no - no luck, other than compatriots in commiseration.

To make backups, I log in using Remote Desktop, get everyone to log
out, stop the service, copy the database files, start the service.

What a pain.

Does a reboot cure it?

I saw a lot of flakey behaviour on a machine with less RAM than it
should have had, including backups and other scripts not running,
clients not showing in the list, and authentication errors when
editing scripts.

The worrying part is there were no errors or other clues about the low
memory condition, FMS just started falling apart.

Now we've upgraded from 500 Megs to 2 Gigs it's been sweet.  Windows
Server 2003.

Cheers
