FileMaker Server Admin won't start

Just did the latest updates to OS X 10.5 today, and now FileMaker Server
Admin, on both FMSA9 and FMSA10, won't start any longer.  If I go to
http://servername:16000 then click on the server admin link, it asks to
start in Java Web Start, then just opens the .jnlp file in TextEdit.

Anyone else seeing this?  Any ideas on how to fix?

I have had the same problem. It seems related to java security update.
The server is up but the console is not accessible via webstart or
desktop application.

I use java preference app to access the console.

No cure to-date.

Works for me, but only when I click on the admin_console_webstart.jnlp file.
It downloads the file, but it doesn't start running automatically. Are you
on an Intel Mac? Java 6SE was added. Perhaps going into the Java Preferences
app and setting a previous version to start first would fix your problem.
Don't know, I have a G5.

As for opening in TextEdit, what is the "Open with" say in the GetInfo
window? It should be  Java Web Start.app (System:Library:CoreServices:Java
Web Start.app)

Aha!!

Looks like the system had lost its association with the Java Web
Start.app properly.  Although it was showing it in the "Open With"
dialog, it must not have been handing it off properly.  When I manually
navigated to the path you supplied in the "Open With" dialog, it worked
fine now.

Thanks!

Exact same thing on my test server at home. I stopped the server,
reinstalled FMS over the old one (mainly to reconnect any broken
associations or rewrite any configs), rebooted, and everything was
smooth from then on.

We did not have to reinstall FMS.  Rather we threw away the applets
and then relaunched  the server start page. It has worked perfectly
ever since.

This also works in Leopard (was posted on TechTalk by Jonathan)....

Passed this on to a client and it solved their FileMaker Server Admin
won't start issues.

Once it's rebuilt, go to http://localhost:16000/ and use the "Start
Admin Console" link. You'll have to wait for java to update again and
recreate the shortcut to Admin Console, but everything should work
after that."

Onyx also has an option to rebuild Launch Services db.

Anyone running FMS 10 on SBS 2008

Hi List

Does anyone have Server 10 running on Windows Small Business Server
2008?

I'm having trouble installing it and have just discovered that Server
2008 is supported, not Small Business Server.

Yes, I know I should have read the specs.
