Filemaker activation (FMPA9)

Hi all

Can anyone shed any light?

I own a single copy of FMPA9. It's activated on my desktop iMac. I'm
now unable to activate on an iBook because I've apparently used up my
two activations. I presume I activated previously on a laptop that is
now dead... Everything I read on the Filemaker site points to me
having to call Filemaker Customer Support -- what a pain.

I'm currently in Portugal. There's no Filemaker office here. I also
don't find a reference to a European one; only offices in certain
larger countries.

Isn't there some means by which I can manage my own activations? ie
switch off the dead one and activate a new one? Or do I have to call
California, for heaven's sake?

Of course, I'm off traveling on Monday, local time. Filemaker won't
be open by the time I leave....

Steve

Hi Steve

There is a FileMaker office in Spain, may be they can help you.

If you can "resurrect" the dead computer, try to deactivate its FM
license and then you should be able to activate it in the iBook.

Good luck.

Hi Steve,

The Portuguese site refers you to tech support in the UK, tel +44 845 603
9100. On Monday they'll be open long before folk wake up stateside and maybe
before you need to leave...

Thanks Chris! I'll call UK tech support Monday morning.

Chris

Many thanks for that suggestion and encouragement. I anticipated a
long and difficult process, but Filemaker UK got me set up within a
few minutes and I'm ready to roam.

Thanks again. I had a kind of dread of calling and being on the phone
for hours. It wasn't that way at all.

I still wonder why I can't manage my activations myself. The
Filemaker rep simply asked for my license key and was able to do
something. I would think it would be fairly simple for Filemaker to
set up a web-based system where I enter my activation key and user
name and then get access to current activations and to a button to
deactivate. I bet it would save them a fortune in support time :)

At this point an enterprising developer would contact FileMaker and
offer to do this, for a small fee of course.
