To all users:

When you start a new topic in this group, please start a new thread by
creating a new fresh mail.
I.e., don't reply to a previous topic, while erasing subject and all
content.

This prevents threads become mixed up, and makes previous topics more
easy to find.

Thanks on behalf of all who organize their mail into threads.

Paul

That's called thread hijacking.

Steps to hijack a thread:

1.- Click the reply button (1 click)
2.- Change the subject (3 clicks)
3.- Change the mail body (5 clicks)
4.- Click the send button (1 click)
                                        -------------
Total 10 clicks

Steps to create a new mail:

1.- Click the new mail button (1 click)
2.- Type the subject (1 clicks)
3.- Type the mail body (1 clicks)
4.- Click the send button (1 click)
                                        -------------
Total 4 clicks

So, it's easier to create a new thead than hijack an old one. Please
folks don't be counterproductive (I was going to say lazy but that's
not polite) and don't hijack old threads.

Thanks for your understanding.

Ibrahim,

While I fully agree with your attempt, you have left out one
important step:
"Type the recipient: [hidden email]" (or at least
start to - to have it auto-filled).

I think this is the main reason WHY people hijack existing threads,
they don't want to error on the recipient address.

So please all, put your list address into your address book and
select it from there. It is easier, since once your new mail is open
you can tab through the fields and enter subject and body.

Thank you,

Winfried

Point of clarification...

It takes 5 clicks to start a new thread. You also need to click who
the email is going to.

Thaks and have a great day.

If you're using Apple's Mail you can also open any message sent to the
list, right-click on the fmexperts address, and select "New Message"
from the resulting menu.

Except if you are using the last version of Eudora 6.2.4,  like I am,
that link does not work. I think Eudora needs "<>" around the link to
see it?

The discussion prompted me though to make a nickname for the list :)
which I had never done before but hijacked threads, and changed them
to my own when posting.  So easy but had never occurred to me in all
these years ...

Great list, could not live without it!

compliment your knowledge, experience and your old age. I guess I
watch too much NCIS.

Oh, Lee, I really don't care that much and I'm not taking any of this
seriously. We all have a tendency to overkill a thread. Appreciate
your thoughts EXCEPT for the age!! :-))

If you wanna see something I've been intimately involved with for the
last year, though, besides just a lot of work, check this out:

Mostly a lurker in recent years but I've been here watching your
gentle approach with other posters since 2001.

As any member of any list knows - you can choose to read or not read
what you want. Don't like thread, think there's too many posts on the
topic, don't read it. I was actually trying to be helpful, not make
noise. You ain't the king that gets to decide when threads end. And
you were the one adding the noise.

Pia is right. The links sometime need thes "<" & ">" around them to be seen
by email as _links_.

It's been a while since I've posted something here because all has been peaceful and working properly in my Filemaker realm, although I do monitor daily to pick up useful tips here and there.

Don't look now folks, but while you were bantering, it looks to me like there have been a couple attempts to hijack this thread... about hijacking threads :)

With comments like that, Mr. Worman, I can see why you've only been a
lurker. Since you posted your previous post that had been a coupld of
more, one by Lee Smith, who took your post as a positive one. As a
matter of fact, when I thought about it even more, I decided that
maybe I should should just bow out gracefully and give you your just
due.

Well, obviously I was right in the first place.

"C'mon you guys, I think we all get it."

Is that comment what you refer to when you say that I "ain't the king
that gets to decide when threads end."

Take another look and see who's acting like a spoiled brat.

Chaps,

As my American friends might say, its been real.

Perhaps we can get back to the topic at hand, otherwise I fear it may
end in fisticuffs or swordplay and thats so ungentlemanly.
