Hi All,

This is a small peer to peer network that has been in operation
through various upgrades since 2001.

I just added a new Mac mini to the mix.  This is the newest model,
bottom end, running Snow Leopard with FileMaker Pro 10.  This machine
has been turned into the host for the system. It has all of the
system upgrades and FileMaker Pro upgrades applied.

The previous host was a first generation Intel Mac MIni.

MIx of machines:

New Mac Mini
First generation Intel Mac Mini
Two Intel MacBooks
One G4 iBook.

The system has been running on a mix of FileMaker Pro 8.0 and 8.5.

The two MInis are hard wired ethernet and the laptops access the
database over wireless.

The machines can connect to the new Mini using "Open Remote" with the
exception of the G4 iBook. There is one Intel laptop that could not
be tested today. So to be clear, three of four machines are connected.

The problem machine is running OS X 10.4.11.  The FileMaker version
is 8.0.  This has been updated to v3 as one of the attempts to get
the two to talk to each other.

The problem machine can connect to the net, so it is getting access
to the network.

Prior to doing the install, I tested FMP 8.0 client to FMp 10 host
here and had no trouble connecting.

Any thoughts here are appreciated.

Thanks

Dave

I went back down to the client's today. The offending machine would
not see the host.  I entered the IP address for the host in the
favorites section and then it was able to see the host and the file.

So the problem is solved but it still does not tell me why only one
machine had this problem.  Oh well, one problem at a time.

David may be LANing down on the job,

If you check the IP/LAN grouping for the wireless device compared to
the wired devices I think you'll find they are different.

BTW, LAN grouping in a group of 4 would be based on the Subnet Mask,
255.255.252.0, a smaller number gives a wider LAN range.
it would have a typical router address of 69.118.1.1 and the IP range
(LAN group) for this would be:
69.118.1.1 to 68.118.4.255

So if the FMS is in this range of IP but the Wireless device isn't
then the wireless device cannot see the FMS computer as LOCAL and is
not discoverable by Bonjour.

LAN group is my term for this range of IP addresses. There is probably
a scientific name for it but ???

Hi JImmy,

Yes the IP addresses are grouped for wireless and "not Wireless".
However, the two other wireless machines were able to connect to the
wired server with no problem.
