Finally getting back to to rebuilding my motor again (Kostov) and keep coming back to the motor terminals. Right now they all mate up in a large bakelite type plastic block via stranded copper jumpers. So current though is to drill some new holes in the case cut the braided parts off and silver solder on some new terminals.

Unfortunately the existing terminals are too short and will not clear the case. First glance they look to be hard brass. Is that the correct material and the best option or is there a better option?

Does anyone sell pre-made terminals? If not I can machine up a set. Also what do folks use for insulators? I have a decent stock of delrin bar that I can turn the pieces I need and can order just about anything else.

Second item is brushes. The ones in my motor are all saturated with trany fluid and starting to break down. Anyone have a good source for ordering weird brushes? (Have not found a Kostov dealer yet :) I can mesure 2 out of 3 dimentions and get a good guess on the third.

Thanks for the help,
Peter

Hi Peter,

Brass bolts work well for the terminal studs.  Be sure to clamp the lugs between two nuts with proper washers and lock washers and not rely on compressed plastic for the high current connection.

Insulator, I'd use Glastic, an electrical grade fiberglass.

Brushes, go back to Kostov if you can't find the real thing at a motor rebuilder or lift truck repair outfit.

Regards,

Jeff M

...
The US distributor for Kostov is at this site: Bohlinger

We bought and received a 9" and 11" Kostov motor from them. I don't know whether they have replacement parts like brushes in stock, but I suspect if people ask for them they will bring them in.

Peter,

You can order direct from Kostov. I will get the contact name and
email for you too. Damn nice folks. You can order anything to rebuild
your Kostov  back to original. I will be doing mine soon.

Pete

You may email me directly if you like.
