Running Croquet examples

Hello,
        I am a Croquet novice.
        I tried running the Croquet Master on one laptop and Croquet Participant on another laptop in a LAN environment.But the participant is not able to locate the master. Obviuosly it works fine when both of them are run on the same laptop.
 I have disabled the firewall on either of the machines, but still it hangs.

 Hope anyone gives pointers on this on what i am missing?

Kiran,

I have tested all the demos successfully across multiple machines on the
same switched  LAN and with one on LAN and one over wifi and the discovery
mechanism works fine.

If using a corporate LAN determine whether both machines are on the same
switch/hub and are both in the same VLAN.  The easily way to probably do
with is by checking the IP address on each and making you sure the
participant and master can ping each other.

If you are LAN stuff is fine then check swap which machine is
master/participant and if that doesn't world load up the simple demo on
either and check the TPostcard settings (Tools Menu) for the world to see
what Croquet is trying to use/connect with.

Kiran,

Heh, excuse the numerous typos in the last email.

What I was getting at with the IP address check with to compare both IP's
and make sure they are in the same subnet so you know your not being routed
and/or NAT'd.

Hi Johnathon ,
                      Thanks for your inputs. I was able to run successfully all the examples.
                      As you mentioned, the systems needs to be on the same VLAN.

Not yet.  Even though I have worked in IT and software development for >10
years I only got wind of Croquet and Squeak a few weeks ago and have only
just come to terms with the patchwork of projects and technoloiges which
makes up the Croquet/Squeak enviroment (AWESOME is the only which comes to
mind!!!)

So I suppose if I am going to start work on anything it might as well work
on creating a native Croquet 3D System Browser, Workspace and Transcript
window so that you can truly code on the inside without suffering the
anguish of using a portal or jumping back out to the 2D world.  Don't ask me
how I plan to do this as I am still figuring that out but it seems the most
fun place to begin (unless of course someone is already workong on it).
