Scribo, aida charts and 6.0beta2

Hi,

seems I have to look into aida charts to get some graphics into my
project.

So, which is the version of scribo for beta2? I currently have
scribo1.0-beta.1.mcz and AidaCharts-np.6.mcz.

Do I need scribo for using aida charts?

Yesterday I tried to install scribo1.0-beta.1.mcz with Aida beta-2 and I
got an error about WebForumApp, but I didn't find a newer version of
Scribo.

Nico, could you help us ?

No, AidaCharts is independent of Scribo (but dependent on Aida) and
latest version should work with newest beta2. At least I didn't notice
problems using it in production on VW Aida beta2.

Hi,

The beta1 is unfortunately a bit old, and may not work with Aida
6.0beta2.

Maybe you should install the latest dev version (Scribo-np.178) from
http://mc.aidaweb.si

http://mc.bioskop.fr/Scribo/Scribo-np.178.mcz

I tried it and after sending ensureJ... messages to the style instead
of the app the WebChartDemo works fine in beta2.

Actually the areaChart element is exactly what I need for my profiles
graphics, if you add the first point again to data3. Great!

I also tried Aida 5.6 In 5.6 it does not work. No errors, just the
charts don't diaplay. Is there something I missed or has it never been
used with 5.6?

The development of AidaCharts happened in 6.0. I never tried it with
5.6.

6.0 will be official version soon, but our betas are more like Google
betas, that is, they are actually production ready and run production
systems already. That way we can avoid maintaining too many branches and
rather concentrate on the future.

That's why I propose that we all migrate to 6.0 beta2 and if there is
some problem with that beta, to make an interim release with necessary
fixes.

Hi Herbert,

A few months ago I got the same problem. I solved it starting with a new
image. That is what I did.


"Today I downloaded a fresh image [Squeak3.10.2-7179-basic] from
http://ftp.squeak.org/current_stable/, before I was using
[sq3.10.2-7179web09.02.1].

I loaded in it Sport2.031, Swazoo2.1, Aida5.6 and AidaCharts-np.6.

With this image all works fine, and the charts are awesome !!!"

maybe you missed my post of May 10th (or I missed your reply) but the
non ASCCI character problem is serious to me, Germans will enter
Umlauts. That's why at present I try everything I do in both versions.

Sorry for nitpicking I'm preparing something planned for production.

Besides my own application I want to use Aida + WebCharts at a
customer where right now Squeak extracts quality data from a database,
writes an ASCII file which is then opened with Excel to create the
charts.

While my own app will still need several months, the latter looks like
work I could complete next weekend.

So what's your "official" recommendation?

I exactly repeated these steps and 5.6 does not work for me.

I have your problem still in mind and it is in queue, well, a long
one... But because I'm also working right now on translation support and
be therefore near your problem, I'll try to address it too.

You got me :) But Germán's problems were mostly Scribo related and
Scribo beta really isn't like Google beta yet. Not because a code
quality and stability but because of packaging and specially big lack of
documentation.

So umlauts problem need to be solved until next weekend? Hmmm...

Go with Aida 6.0 beta2. With just a slight doze of adventure in mind :)

Also, I can help you with the latest Aida, but much harder with 5.6,
because all my production and dev systems are already upgraded, so it
will take me a lot of time to diagnose problems in older versions.

No. I won't give AIDA to the customer unless it is solved. No pressure
on you. Maybe I do it this weekend and only use it for myself (just to
be faster than using excel to generate the report).

Just to avoid that the boss phones the secretary "Give me a quality
report for August" and when he gets it complains about funny
umlauts. I'm sure you know that situation :-))

thanks a lot, these work for me now.

I just wanted to check if my changes to make it compatible with beta2
also work on 5.6 which it does.
