Strange Squealing/Grinding Noise only when coasting

This noise just started about a  week ago. My EV (94 Saturn) makes this squealing/grinding noise when it coasts in 2nd gear and makes a faint noise in 3rd gear.  As soon as I put the car in neutral, it disappears. It also disappears when I either accelerate/decelerate.

Any ideas what's going on?  This is killing my range because I have to either be accelerating or breaking all the time to avoid this noise.

Would greatly appreciate any help!

The most probable cause is that your transmission is moving forward during
acceleration, which causes the throw out bearing to rub against the clutch
fingers.

The next probable cause is that your transmission pilot shaft is bottom out
in the pilot bushing or the drive line yoke is bottom out or the yoke is
pressing against the transmission tail shaft bearing.

The next cause, is that the drive line is too inline with the transmission
tail shaft and differential pinion.  There must be a offset angle in this
drive line, otherwise the U-joints bearings will not rotate and they will
start to wear a flat spot on the needle bearings.

To fix the clearances of the transmission pilot bearing, try to move the
transmission back about 1/8 inch by installing shims between the adapter
plate and transmission.

To fix the clearances of the transmission tail shaft to yoke clearances,
move the transmission and motor ahead where the clearance is according to
specifications.  You can try about 1/2 inch clearance while the vehicle
weight is on the pavement.  This will be the maximum push in by the drive
line.

And it could be the throw out bearing that has not enough clearance when you
release it.  The acceleration of the vehicle cause the transmission to move
forward which may cause it to rub against the clutch.

It either just may be a adjustment on the clutch mechanism or a different
length of throw out bearing.  In my case, my clutch peddle was too much, so
I had to use a long throw out bearing.
