Hello,

I'm sure you've all seen the beautiful application at Whitevoid, www.whitevoid.com/application.
Anyone who could give a simple analyse of this site?
I was thinking about things as: papervision, tweener, paperclouds, tiltviewer

Any idea?

Thanks in advantage,
Michael ten Pas

Looks like it was done with Papervision3D 1.5 and tweener. Just my guess.

I saw this site a while back and figured that I would try to duplicate it (more or less) as my first pv3d project. Done with Great White. Stil need to figure out how to add interactivity to the planes (such as scrolling text or something).

http://www.reactionplus.com/#

It doesn't compare to their site ... not even close. But, it has been a good learning experience for me.

Thanks. It was more of an exercise in experimentation, trial and error. Honestly, I probably have some things wrong ... or it could be done more efficiently. I just don't have a grasp of pv3d yet and I am having a hard time finding good tutorials, example, and documentation.

I came across this: http://www.flashbookmarks.com/PV3D-Effects-DOC/class-summary.html. Took me a while to find docs for GW.

If you want to help me improve the code I would be happy to send it to you via email.

Cheers,
Craig

Let me tool around with it a bit more and clean it up. We are moving our office tomorrow so hopefully I can get this put together a little better next week.

My biggest struggle is the interactivity of viewport, planes, and the materials that make up the plane. I need to figure out how to alter interactivity once you zoom into a "sub plane".

Too funny!

Honestly, I don't have a good grasp (maybe a very narrow grasp of certain aspects). I started messing with it for the first time last week. Prior to that I did a couple of Lee Brimelow's tutorials on gotoandlearn.com. These tutorials were very helpful in getting me started - understanding viewport, scene, renderer, camera and adding planes.

When I look at the class documents I have no idea how to use 95% of them! Even those that I am using in my example ... I don't know what all of the properties and methods mean. That is why I said there was a lot of trial and error. Mostly error!

But, what has helped me is the fact that I started reading Essential AS3 right when it came out. I guess that I applied the same principals that I would apply to a 2D flash movie.

I appreciate the compliments. My goal is to get people involved with helping and understanding pv3d. Currently, in my opinion, there isn't much support yet. I feel alone and confused in the pv3d world (very sad). That is why I want to gather with others and really get a better grasp by sharing ideas and knowledge as we all learn this together.

OK ... here are my files:
http://www.nabble.com/file/p16627839/pv3d_gallery.zip pv3d_gallery.zip

Here is a live example: http://www.reactionplus.com/#

I need to figure out how to show the hand cursor when you roll over the
"button test" button. Really, the point is to figure out how to make
material in a plane fully interactive - whether we are loading external swfs

We did a similar thing with http://tree3d.zerofractal.com/Live_Example.html

Papervision Greatwhite and tweener.  Basically load Movieclips onto 3d planes and using the over and click events on the planes spring up new planes via tweener and so on...

Hey guys, i noticed the papervision events are not overriding the clone method so you should probably fix that.

Actually AnimationEvent has it but the other ones don't.

A runtime error comes up if you try to re-dispatch a custom event that doesn't override the clone method.

See you guys in Toronto.

Orbiting a FreeCamera3D using parenting...

Hi,

I'm trying to orbit a camera around my scene by parenting it to an
empty DisplayObject3D and rotation that. For some reason
transformations applied to the parent (rotations and translations) do
not seem to be filtering down to the camera.

Is such a thing possible? I thought there might be some sort of
updateTransformationMatrix function I should be calling...

Thanks for any help,
David

Hi David,

You could try creating a DisplayObject3D group but instead of adding
the camera into it, add another DisplayObject3D and move that instead.
Then have an enter-frame loop which positions the camera at the same
coordinates of the child DisplayObject3D.

scene = new Scene3D();

camPos = new DisplayObject3D();
camPos.z = -150;
camPosGroup = new DisplayObject3D();
camPosGroup.addChild(camPos);
scene.addChild(camPosGroup);

stage.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, update);

private function update(e:Event):void
{
        camPosGroup.rotationY = mouseX  / stage.stageWidth * 360;
        camPosGroup.rotationX = mouseY / stage.stageHeight * 180;

        camera.x = camPos.sceneX;
        camera.y = camPos.sceneY;
        camera.z = camPos.sceneZ;
}
